To the islands!

15 June 1018 – I’m wanting to get to the San Juan Islands. This means going north. I could cross the Strait of Juan de Fuca or go the ‘back way’ going up Saratoga Passage on the east side of Whidbey Island and then take Swinomish Channel passing through LaConner. I’ve never taken the latter … More To the islands!

South to Edmonds

7 June 2018 – I cast off the Hope Island State Park buoy at 7am and motor with the tide to Strawberry Point with 5kt wind on the nose the entire way. The Skagit Bay channel heading south along Whidbey Island is narrow and busy with boats and crab pots for (easy) short tacking. The … More South to Edmonds

Saratoga Passage

After securing SWEET PEA for sea I depart the Port of Edmonds berth at 9:30am. Before leaving the marina there is a quick stop at the gas dock for fuel. Two hours later I clear East Point and an hour later pass by Baby Island heading south into Holmes Harbor. … More Saratoga Passage

This trip involved transiting Agate Passage and then crossing the main channel of Puget Sound. There is a strong afternoon and evening wind forecast for Admiralty … More One month

I’ve been gunkholing around South Puget Sound for near a month so it is time to head north. I move from McMicken to Longbranch with a stop at Zittle’s Marina at Johnson Point to get gas, water and dump the porta-potti and a swing by Eagle Island State Park. The plan was to stay at … More Heading North

Tossed about

As the evening settled in around Sweet Pea the forecast not to windy northerly was blowing out of the Southwest at Joemma State Park. The seas were confused one to two footers and the wind whistled in the rigging. I had hoped it was just a ‘bit of wind’ as the sun was setting – … More Tossed about

Out in the open

Went to be before the sun had set. I sleep very well on the boat and yesterday’s long motoring spell had me tired. I now need to figure out where to be for the Memorial Day long weekend. My thinking is to try a place I don’t remember staying – Joemma State Park just northeast-ish … More Out in the open
